Emergencies we treat at Vallejo Family Dentistry

A dental emergency is pain, swelling, bleeding or tooth damage that shouldn’t wait for a routine visit, like these:

  • Toothache: Pain that keeps you up at night or flares when you bite.
  • Broken or cracked tooth: A chip or crack, even one that only hurts when you chew.
  • Swelling or infection: A swollen gum, cheek or jaw, which can signal an abscess.
  • Lost crown or filling: A tooth left exposed and often sensitive.
  • Knocked-out tooth or injury: Quick care gives the best chance of saving the tooth.

Go to the ER first for a head or neck injury, trouble breathing or swallowing, bleeding that won’t stop or severe swelling.

How does a same-day visit work?

Emergency visits follow three steps.

What to do before you arrive

A few first-aid steps can protect the tooth until your visit.

  • Knocked-out tooth: Hold it by the top, not the root, and keep it moist in the socket, between cheek and gum, or in milk.
  • Broken or cracked tooth: Rinse with warm water, save the pieces and use a cold compress.
  • Toothache: Rinse, floss gently and keep aspirin off the gum, where it can burn.

Free second opinions before you decide

A free second opinion shows you where a tooth stands and the options for it, including the most conservative one. It can help if you’ve been told you need extensive work, or if a crown or filling keeps coming loose. Visits take place in our Vallejo office, with no pressure to book.

Costs and coverage for emergency care

We explain the cost of emergency treatment before we start.

  • PPO insurance: We’re out of network with every plan, but we file your claim and tell you what your plan will reimburse.
  • Financing: CareCredit, Cherry and Sunbit split a root canal or crown into monthly payments.
  • Savings plan: Membership starts at $35 a month and takes 10% off treatment.

Dental Care Without Stress or Judgment

We’re proud of the long-lasting results and the happy smiles that tell our story best.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I see an emergency dentist in Vallejo today?
Yes, whenever the schedule allows. As a Vallejo emergency dentist, we work to fit urgent patients in the same day after a call about their symptoms, first-time patients included. We’re open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, at 23 Rotary Way, a short drive from Glen Cove, Mare Island, Benicia and American Canyon.
  • How much does an emergency dental visit cost?
It depends on the treatment, and we’ll explain your cost once we’ve seen the tooth, before any work begins. We file your PPO claim and let you know what to expect back from your plan. CareCredit, Cherry and Sunbit offer monthly payments, and our savings plan from $35 a month takes 10% off treatment.
  • Can you save a cracked or infected tooth?
Often, yes. A root canal can clear an infection from inside the tooth, and a crown can hold a cracked tooth together. If we can’t save the tooth, CBCT imaging helps us plan its removal, and we’ll talk through replacing it with a bridge, a denture or a dental implant.
  • My tooth stopped hurting. Do I still need to come in?
Yes. Pain that fades after days of aching can mean the nerve inside the tooth has died while an infection keeps spreading. Call our Vallejo office for an exam and x-rays, especially if you notice swelling, a bad taste or a bump on the gum, since early treatment usually takes less work.
  • What should I do if my crown falls off?
Keep the crown, bring it with you, and skip super glue, which can damage the crown and the tooth. The tooth underneath can be sensitive or weak without its cover, so chew on the other side until we see you. If a crown or filling keeps coming loose, ask about a free second opinion.
